Vaccines advised to ALL visitors:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Tetanus
  • Yellow fever

Vaccines advised to some visitors (long term travellers, travellers working in risk areas):

 

  • Diptheria
  • Hepatitis B
  • Rabies
  • Typhoid

British travellers should also ensure they have adequate protection from Measles, mumps and rubella and tuberculosis, which are normally given as part of the childhood vaccination schedule.

Malaria and regions within country:chinna

There is a high risk of P.Falciparum and P.Vivax malaria in Southern and inland regions including the areas of Maripasoula, Apatou and Camopi and by the coast just west of Mana. There is a low to no risk of malaria in all other areas including the city of Cayenne.

Malaria chemoprophylaxis for high risk zones:

Doxycycline
OR
Atovaquone/Proguanil
OR
Mefloquine
Chloroquine plus Proguanil should only be used if other anti-malarials cannot be tolerated as it is less effective in these regions.

Diseases present that cannot be vaccinated against:

  • Dengue fever
  • Filariasis
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Leishmaniasis
  • Schistosomiasis
  • Stomach bugs/diarrhoea
  • Trypanosomiasis – American
